In 2000, the media published a photo of Tuvia Grossman, a Jewish student from Chicago -- bloodied and battered -- crouching beneath a club-wielding Israeli policeman. The caption identified him as a Palestinian victim of Israeli brutality -- with the clear implication that the Israeli soldier was the one who beat him. In fact, the policeman saved his life.

Now, ten years on, HonestReporting has reunited Tuvia and his rescuer for the first time since those terrible events. Watch the video to witness their dramatic reunion.

IDF Reserve Doctor Saves the Life of a Palestinian Man

Captain Dr. Alejandro Murninkas’s yearly reserve service was unlike any other this year.  On Monday morning he was paged to arrive as soon as possible to a building site outside Jerusalem. When Alenjandro arrived at the scene, he saw a Palestinian man in critical condition, unconscious and breathing shallowly. The medics, lead by Alejandro, started treating the man, until his pulse steadied and his condition was defined as stable.

Alejandro is a reserve doctor in the Paratroopers Reservists Brigade, serving every year for a limited number of days as Chief Battalion Doctor. This year he was stationed at Halamish Base, located near Ramallah—where he was called to treat his patient.

A photo of an IDF soldier purportedly stepping on a Palestinian girl in an act of brutality was recently debunked, after having been proven to be captured in Bahrain in December 2009.

The photo was identified as staged due to several fallacies, such as the use of an AK-47 rifle, which the IDF doesn’t use, as well as inconsistencies with the imposter’s uniform, and with operational reports from the field.

The IDF regrets the cynical use of children in acts meant to demonize IDF soldiers, and emphasizes that such behaviour is completely at odds with the IDF Code of Conduct.

20-летняя Ширин Шлиан, жительница одной из арабских деревень на севере Израиля, служит в ЦАХАЛе. Своим примером она хочет сподвигнуть на службу в израильской армии арабскую молодежь страны.

Двое братьев Ширин тоже служат в ЦАХАЛе, причем один из них уже получил звание майора. «И арабы, и евреи часто спрашивают меня, зачем я пошла служить, — рассказывает Ширин. — Узнав, что я арабка, многие евреи удивляются, зачем мне это нужно… Должно быть, дело в хорошем воспитании, которое я получила в семье».


Несколько месяцев назад Ширин прошла курсы по подготовке молодых инструкторов. Ее задача — посещать школы Нацрат-Илита и рассказывать учащимся старших классов о службе в армии. «Мы беседуем о том, что такое армия, чем полезна служба, какие навыки там можно приобрести или развить, — говорит Ширин. — Кроме того, я беседую с каждым учащимся лично — это настраивает их на позитивное отношение к службе. Школьники аплодируют мне за то, что я решила пойти в армию и внести свой вклад в оборонную мощь страны».

A year and half after the dance routine of Nahal Brigade soldiers in Hebron won over the hearts of Internet users, but angered the IDF and caused an international stir, a similar clip made by soldiers from the elite Paratroopers Unit has been removed from the web.

In the video, 11 soldiers preformed their morning drill routine in an IDF boot camp, with Palestinian flags waving the background, to the upbeat Brazilian hit "Ai Se Eu Te Pego."

The combatants are shown dancing around and waving the unit's red colored flags.

 Some one thousand people were able to view the clip in the few days it was online, but after Ynet approached the IDF Spokesman's Unit about it on Friday, the clip was quickly removed.

1. The Iron Dome Rocket Defense System:
The Iron Dome System has been deployed in the south of Israel since early 2011 in order to protect Israel’s population from the rockets fired from Gaza.
First of all, the system is the first of its kind. In terms of speed, accuracy and capability, there was no other system like it in the world prior to its introduction. Every individual battery is fully mobile and includes a radar station, a weapons control unit and the actual missile firing unit itself. As soon as an enemy rocket is fired into Israel, the radar station detects and tracks its trajectory and launches a missile of its own to intercept and neutralize the enemy rocket before it can cause any harm.
