In 2000, the media published a photo of Tuvia Grossman, a Jewish student from Chicago -- bloodied and battered -- crouching beneath a club-wielding Israeli policeman. The caption identified him as a Palestinian victim of Israeli brutality -- with the clear implication that the Israeli soldier was the one who beat him. In fact, the policeman saved his life.

 Египетские власти обратились к руководству сектора Газы с просьбой разыскать и вернуть в Египет примерно 1.400 автомобилей, угнанных у египтян и переправленных контрабандой в Газу, сообщает 12 февраля информационное агентство MENA.

Руководство террористической организации ХАМАС, контролирующей сектор Газы, пока не комментирует эту информацию.
Следует отметить, что контрабандная поставка автомобилей в сектор Газы расцвела после прихода к власти ХАМАС в этом районе. Контрабандисты переправляли машины в разобранном виде и собирали в Газе, а также прорыли несколько достаточно широких туннелей для провоза машин целиком. В 2009 году сообщалось, что некоторые туннели достаточно велики, чтобы по ним можно было проехать на небольших джипах или квадроциклах.

Photo of IDF Soldier Stepping on Girl Proven False

A photo of an IDF soldier purportedly stepping on a Palestinian girl in an act of brutality was recently debunked, after having been proven to be captured in Bahrain in December 2009.

The photo was identified as staged due to several fallacies, such as the use of an AK-47 rifle, which the IDF doesn’t use, as well as inconsistencies with the imposter’s uniform, and with operational reports from the field.

The IDF regrets the cynical use of children in acts meant to demonize IDF soldiers, and emphasizes that such behaviour is completely at odds with the IDF Code of Conduct.

Ending violent international conflicts requires understanding the causal factors that perpetuate them. In the Israeli–Palestinian conflict, Israelis and Palestinians each tend to see themselves as victims, engaging in violence only in response to attacks initiated by a fundamentally and implacably violent foe bent on their destruction. Econometric techniques allow us to empirically test the degree to which violence on each side occurs in response to aggression by the other side.

139,678 tons of goods entered Gaza in December

Monthly crossing report shows that 4,373 trucks entered Gaza Strip from Israel in December

During the month of December, 4,373 trucks carrying 139,678 tons of goods entered the Gaza Strip from Israel through the Kerem Shalom crossing.

Of the trucks, 1,242 were carrying food, 1,218 were carrying construction materials, 148 were carrying agricultural inputs, 63 were carrying clothes and footwear, 137 were carrying electric products, and 281 were carrying ceramics and plumbing. Transportation of cooking gas into the Gaza Strip continued with 3,446 tons.

Palestinian Authority TV keeps reinforcing the Palestinian denial of Israel's right to exist. This week PA TV rebroadcast a song which states that "Jaffa, Acre, Haifa, and Nazareth are ours."
The song On the way to Jerusalem by Muhammad Kabha, which has been broadcast on PA TV seven times, identifies numerous cities all over Israel as "Palestinian."

I think if you haven’t had much contact with the Middle East it is hard to comprehend how loony a region this is and the magnitude of the lies told about it. I had to deal today with something relating to the presence of Egypt’s embassy in Israel and it made me think about some past experiences.

A few years ago I was giving a lecture at the Australian National University. It was a pretty routine and uncontroversial session when suddenly the question and answer period erupted into something close to a melee. One of the people in the audience was the wife of the Egyptian ambassador to Australia and she started yelling about how horrible a country Israel was, full of evil racists.

What was her grievance? She claimed that when she walked around the streets of Tel Aviv, people threatened and spat at her. This was thoroughly bizarre even beyond all the obvious reasons. She obviously dressed in Western clothes and was not identifiable as an Egyptian or Arab. I had never seen a picture of the ambassador or his wife in the Israeli media so nobody would know what she looked like anyway.

The Egyptian embassy is located near Basel Street, an upscale yuppie area of expensive cafes that if anything is on the left side of the political spectum. I don’t think there had ever even been a demonstration at the embassy. So aside from the fact that Israelis have never harassed foreign diplomats as far as I know and that there had never been an article or protest about such alleged harassment, there was every reason to believe that the whole story was a fantasy.
